According to the official definition, masturbation is the manual excitation of the sexual organs with the purpose of reaching orgasm. Using sex toys instead of your hand and adding non-genital stimulation still qualifies as masturbation since it’s a mere variation in the technique. The main purpose of any masturbation technique is to achieve orgasm by touching the sex organs. Although the society at large sees masturbation mainly as a private and solitary practice, certain people choose to integrate it in their sexual lives in the form of mutual masturbation. In such cases, mutual masturbation may be used as foreplay or even as a full replacement for intercourse.
Masturbation techniques vary from person to person. They depend largely on preferences, time available and other issues (circumcision is one of the major factors that determine the choice of masturbation techniques in men). The frequency of masturbation depends largely upon the age of the person in question. Teens and adolescents tend to masturbate very frequently, after which many move on to sexual intercourse. However, many people (mostly men) continue to masturbate well in their 20s and even beyond this age. Almost every man masturbates, but not everyone does it the same way. Some men use a full grip, while others use only a couple of fingers. Some use condoms, others use lubrication; still others like to go all natural. It’s really a matter of personal taste and mood. A lot of men are perfectly content with the basic full grip and never think of trying to improve something that is practically guaranteed to bring them pleasure.
The full fist grip is the basic and, probably, the most widespread masturbation technique. The man grips the shaft firmly in his palm and wraps his fingers around it. The hand is used in this case to simulate the grip of a vagina, as the man strokes his way to orgasm. The stroking speed can be controlled in order to prolong the pleasure or to obtain a fast and intense orgasm. The usual masturbation technique for women is to push two or three fingers inside the vagina, while another finger strokes the clitoris.
